Little Big & Big Little Sisters

My sister is having a baby. Any day now in fact. She is due on Thursday and we are patiently awaiting the arrival. But since this is the first time my sister is getting a blog post, we must digress. My sister is my little sister. I am four years and four days older. I remember when she was born. We wore matching big & little outfits for years. I was the brunette version, she was the blond. We are as different as night and day, and yet at our very cores we are the same. We are a yin and yang, a matched set of sisterhood. She is my best friend.

My sister Jessica is my little sister by birth order only. She is almost six feet tall. She dwarfs me easily. When we were in school we had this long drawn out discussion about the battle of Little Big Horn. In the end she understood it by bestowing me with that name. Because even in her junior high gangly stature she had outgrown me. Ever since I have been her little big sister.

So conversely, she is my big little sister. And she is having a baby. Her first to be exact. She has been an amazing aunt to all four of my sons. She is the godmother to one. She has been at the hospital for some of their births and driven all night to get to see one when he came early and she had just started spring break. Now it is her turn, and I couldn't be more excited that the tables are reversed.

And boy are they! This is Momma D and Da Boyz. Me and my four sons. Only her story is Momma C and the Girl. I am getting a niece! A little girl to hold and love, to dress in frilly bottoms and bows in her hair. Not only that, I get to be her special Auntie who is her caregiver during the day. She will be spending afternoons with Nate, Eli and I while her parents are working. So very perfect indeed that indirectly Momma D is getting her girl to love and cherish!

My favorite part is that my little niece will carry my middle name, that is also the middle name of my grandmother. It is a name I had planned to give a daughter of my own, but as I was blessed with a bounty of sons, I never got to use it. It will carry on in the bundle of love and affection that will be my niece. I am so proud.

So keep your eyes peeled. Be excited and abuzz with anticipation! My niece is coming. We shall call her what we have called her for months. In the spirit of her Scrubs loving parents, I cannot wait until I get to introduce you to our little Mocha Cub!

In the meantime, meet my Big Little Sis, Jes. She is the anti-Jenn, who unlike any of mine, has had an absolutely text book perfect pregnancy. This is her on the Fourth of July, 39 weeks and 3 days pregnant, enjoying our local street fair...
