Mocha Cub Is Making Her Debut!

Today is a BIG DAY! Early this morning my phone rang and it was my brother-in-law. My sister was in labor. Her contractions were five minutes apart and they were headed to the local hospital. Ever since I have had a ton of nervous energy. I've spent the morning answering emails, working on camp plans, catching up on my saved DVR shows. But nothing seems to distract enough to keep that jumping hearts aflutter feeling down.

This is my baby sister. And we are in unfamiliar territory here. I may be the mother of four, but never once has my body gone into full blown labor on its own. I was induced with my first child, and that consequences of that was too much labor in too short a period of time leading to permanent damage to my body. Therefore the three littlest boyz were born via cesarean section. So here I am, this uber experienced Momma D, but in many ways in the dark about the natural order of things. Of course I know the basics, but it is definitely an untrodden path.

As we enter the afternoon I am getting more and more excited. Hopefully in the next few hours we will have a wonderful new addition to our family. I am most excited to see the beauty that her parents and God have wrapped up into the little package that is her. We will finally get to see things that have fostered many a conversation these last few months. What shade shall our Mocha Cub be? Right in between the ivory with pink undertones of her mother's and the milk chocolate of her father's skin tones? Or will she be closer to one side or the other? And the most highly anticipated question of what her hair will be like will finally be answered. My sister and I, with our long stick straight hair, have been rooting for a soft curl that she will leave natural and eventually sport a beautiful 'fro! We look forward to this bit of exotic in contrast the abundance of blond haired, blue eyed, WASPy boyz that I have produced.

So check back tomorrow for pictures of the beautiful, fresh from God, baby niece that hopefully I will be cradling in just a few hours. In the meantime I will be hoping and praying for the protection of both of my favorite little girls, because no matter how old we get she will truly always be my baby sister.

In the meantime, enjoy a picture of my sister taken on Monday by a friend of our family Katie Babicz. What an amazingly gorgeous job she did! Don't you just love the way the light outlines the belly?

Great photo! Sending lots of good thoughts and wishes to you and your sister. Can't wait to see pics... and yes, a little curl to the hair is a wonderful thing. Luckily my son got some curl to contrast with my boring straight hair. =)
