Last week was our churches annual week of Vacation Bible School. My two eldest boyz went off to our church every evening right after dinner to learn about the Crocodile Dock, and all of it’s wonderful creatures and lessons.
They come back each evening jabbering incessantly about who the character of the day was, what craft they did, what snack they ate, what games they played and what songs they sang. I am always amused at what a Gabriel version of whatever new song sounds like. He will randomly spout various lines at any given point of the day. On Thursday he starts with wild hand motions as I am trying to get some food together. Standing waist high next to me at the stove he is throwing his arms and hands this way and that singing at the top of his lungs “break me, make me, shape me” and even some nonsensical lines. But then tugs at my shorts and says “Momma, you know that one?”. I love that despite the fact some of these songs are brand new to the program, my son has all the confidence in the world it is a Christian song and Momma must know it.
I went a little early to pick them up at the end of the last session on Friday night. I loved watching how enthused they were. It is fun to watch Seth as he grows and matures. Content to stand with his friends doing the motions, singing and praising. To watch Gabriel is an experience entirely different. He is so excited and bubbling over to be a part of the VBS experience. He loves that it is a program entirely geared towards kids. And when he dances and does all of the motions, it is an overflowing of excitement. Truly praise.
Gabriel’s priceless moment of the week was when I was trying to get him ready to go to VBS one night during the week. We were trying to get his shoes tied, and he was nervous about getting there on time. He turns his head up to me, almost nose to nose and looking up through his heavy lashes into mine. “Mommy, hurry up…I’m getting late for GPS”. Despite many corrections to the contrary, he continues to insist that that is the name of the program. My son is overjoyed to have been able to experience GPS as a “kid“.
I told a friend who was helping to run the program, and we have decided that GPS is not at all a bad moniker if one was not to use the traditional name. I am pleased that my son is finding guidance from the very capable and willing hands of my church family! I only hope and pray that he will continue to look upward for guidance as he grows older.

That's adorable! I loved "GPS" as a kid too! I still sing most of the songs. And now that my husband started "helping out" with our church's, I can't wait for Sam to be old enough to go.
Glad they had a good time!
