Gabriel getting ready to go into surgery, August 2008Gabriel will be having surgery on the 19th, three weeks from today. He is having tubes put in for the second time. He had his first surgery, that put the first set of tubes in and removed his over sized adenoids, ten days before Eli was born. I actually went into the room with him and held his hand as they put him under. I had to wear scrubs for even the few minutes that I was in the OR, and they were HUGE to fit around my very, very pregnant self.
But alas, that first set of tubes is no longer working. They are not even fully out of his ears yet. But Gabriel has had a large amount of fluid for some time now. So much so that he has a considerable hearing loss. We are more and more frequently met with what's? than him actually hearing what we are saying. And it is beginning to affect his ability to function fully in school. Not as much of a concern when he was in preschool, but now in Kindergarten it is a definite problem. We are hoping that just as before the hearing loss is temporary and will be relieved as soon as the pressure and fluid is.
So the nineteenth we are headed back to outpatient surgery. Hopefully things will go as smoothly as before and God will guide the hands of our talented and caring ENT. We are praying that it will be a day where problems are solved and again my little boy will be able to hear my whispers. It was the most amazing thing to hold a post-op son in my arms and softly speak "Mommy loves Gabriel" and hear in a horse, gravely tone "and Gabriel loves Mommy". I am looking forward to the repeat performance!

I hope the surgery goes smoothly!
I hope he does great during surgery and the new tubes do their job this time! I love the sidebar pics of the boys!
My thoughts will be with him. My godson has the same problem with his tubes. I hope this will be the last surgery for your son.
My daughter's tubes came out two weeks ago (after a year in) She has had ear infections and is now sick with croup. I think we are on the way back to the OR as well.
Good luck!
