We were recently given the oppurtunity to try out the Uneaks shoe system in our household. The Uneaks shoe system is exactly what it sounds like, unique! You purchase a pair of sneakers from their website, and then purchase coordinating socks. The socks allow you to customize your childs shoes to their mood, interests or what they are wearing for the day because the outer side of each shoe has a see through plastic window. Most styles of these shoes are available in children's sizes 8 through 3.5.
As the older boyz had just gotten new shoes for the start of the school year, Nathan got to pick a pair. He chose the Camel Rev shoe that has a skater look to it. The uppers are a soft suede that bends easily with his foot. The sole of the shoe is the chunkier yet flat style of the skater look. He loves that his shoes look similar to his older brothers, who wear the same sort of style. I like that the laces are the flat ones the traditionally go with this type of shoe, but was pleasantly suprised that they are somewhat thinner. So without compromising the style, they managed to make the laces more manageable for tiny hands and feet.
The Uneaks shoes come in both boy and girl styles, all affordably priced at $39.99. I am very impressed with the quality of the shoe itself. The materials are wonderful, not at all cheap. The suede looks and feels great. These definitely seem to be a first rate shoe!
The customizable part of the shoe is in the form of the socks that you purchase to go along with it. Uneaks has many designs, including a Madagascar line from the film. Each pair of socks is two sided, with a different pattern on opposite sides. As the window on the shoes is only on the outer edge, you get two different looks from each pair of socks purchased. Wear you Pink Zebra print on Monday, wash them and then on Thursday or Friday wear the Pink Camo. I love the value for your dollar that this system provides! I find that to be a well thought out feature. Each pair of socks retail for $3.99.
Nathan received four pairs of socks (thats EIGHT looks!) with his sneakers. He loved looking through them all. As he is growing out of his flamed vans, he is particularly partial to the flames so that he can make his new shoes "fire shoes". He also loved that he got to wear sports balls with his football sweats.
Nate had no complaints about these shoes. He is loving the different socks. He loves that some are crew length and some are ankle length. My only quam is that with this particular shoe the window is slightly smaller than some others, but that is a sacrifice we made for that style I suppose. Keep that in mind if you are purchasing these shoe systems, wether that will bother your child or not. Nate was slightly disappointed when he wore the larger of the sports balls pattern as many of the balls were indistiguishable throught the side do to the size. We will wear the other side, with the smaller balls, much more frequently in order for him to see more of the pattern.
We like these shoes a lot here in our household! Thank you to Uneaks who provided us with a free pair of shoes and four pairs of socks for review. Although I was given the product to try out and review free of charge, all of this post is my opinions and feelings based on the prouct reviewed. For purchase, please check the retailer section of the Uneaks website. They are available at several retail locations, mostly in the Northeast. This is a great idea, thanks Momma D. I have the hardest time finding "interesting" socks for my boys, especially my oldest. What a fun way to express some individuality.
I love the Black/Red Boomerang with the Madagascar - Marty Crew Sock and the Racing - Emergency Crew Sock. As expected my almost 5 year old loves animals and cars.
Maybe we can find dinosaurs at some point too, that would be a cool addition to the sock line.
OK... It's been a while for reviews and Giveaways.... I am so excited about these, Elissa is looking to get new shoes now so I hope I win!
I love all the socks, but my favorites are Leopard Print - Dancing Flames Ankle Sock.
For Elissa I would go with the
Pink Rev shoes.... just because they aren't so "girly"!
I am always looking for something Different for Elissa.... we had a different backpack and guess what... someone in her car rider room has the SAME ONE!!!
I HOPE I WIN THE GIVEAWAY :-D

My fiance's daughter changes shoe sizes on a regular basis so shoes are needed regularly. She likes the White paris lace shoes and Madagascar - Alex ankle socks best (mainly because they are not too girly).
