Today is 13 days post Gabriel's second surgery. We had his post-operation follow up with his ENT surgeon today. I am happy to report that all is well with the new tubes. It also seems that the hearing loss was temporary and there is no permanent damage.
All the news was not good, however. The doctor said that due to the nature of his specific fluid, which is much thicker and stickier than normal, there is a likelihood that this will continue to be a problem. Unless his chemistry and how his body creates the fluid changes as he grows we will have to look at long term options after this set of tubes.
But for now, and hopefully the next year and a half, we just hold tight and enjoy the work that this set of tubes is doing. I will continue to smile when he can hear my whispers and he will continue to marvel at how he can make out different sounds in words that he was missing before. And hopefully in the next year our little boys body can work this out in it's own way!
