Wilton Ultimate Tool Caddy Review & Giveaway (ends 3/11)

I am an avid amateur cake decorator. You can check out some of my cakes on my cake blog! When my eldest was about two and a half I decided I wanted to learn how to make the coolest cupcakes for when he went to preschool the next year. I signed up at our local Michael's craft store and learned the Wilton method of cake decorating, completing all three basic courses in three months time.

I found it a quick, comprehensive and cost effective way to learn everything you need to know to decorate everything from kid's birthday cupcakes to wedding cakes. Needless to say, I am a huge Wilton fan because of it. From the cake pans that give me professional results to the idea books, I love it all. So I was extremely excited when Wilton let me pick a product to review!

I chose the Ultimate Tool Caddy. I had the traditional tool caddy, and I had never seen the Ultimate Tool Caddy. I excitedly unpacked it and I was not disappointed! This is a larger caddy, the other resembles more of a tool box construction. This is more like a tabletop cabinet that houses individual organizing containers.

I especially like the two flip top sections specifically for housing your decorating tips. Although the traditional caddy does have a section where they are housed, the advantage to these sections is that when the tops are closed they hold them in the individual slots. After the time I spend organizing my tips according to numbers, to find them jumbled can be extremely frustrating. So this is a feature I love. I also like that the new design also accommodates the larger tips as well as those with the internal pieces, like those used to make some of the flowers.

The two smaller flip top sections I use for the couplers and coupler rings as well as tip covers. Easily accessible. The three smaller sections in the middle each remove individually. Two are divided into three compartments. I used them to organize things quickly by like item, such as the larger coupler and icing tip and one for the flower making accessories.

The third of the compartments is for coloring gels. Either ten 1 oz and ten 1/2 oz jars, or 24 1/2 oz jars. I have quite a few of the different colors, and filled this and most of one of the three compartment sections as well. I did prefer the original tool caddy set up for the gels, but in this cabinet set up that could not be accommodated in the same way. It's a trade off I'm willing to take for the organization and ease of the Ultimate Tool Caddy.

The bottom section is large. It comes with two sets of dividers. One will divide the box into two large width wise compartments. This would be excellent for larger items like the flower formers. I choose to use the second set of dividers that makes three smaller length wise compartments. I use one section for my fondant tools, one for all of my cake decorating bags, and one for miscellaneous.

I also really like the way the sides are designed to hold my different spatulas. From the large ones to the small angled ones, the way the sides are designed they all slip in easily and are safe from damage. They are also easy to grab if I need a certain one mid cake icing.

I truly love the design of this caddy. The one drawback is the sheer size of it makes it so it no longer fits on the shelf in my kitchen cabinet that I used to place the other caddy on. But the ease in which I can find all of my items makes it well worth the switch. I can find any tool I am looking for in no time.

I am really happy to have done this review since I have been decorating for awhile and thought I had most of the "cool" things. When I went to check to see if this is available in my local craft stores, I found it stocked in both AC Moore and Michaels. But just being in the aisle made me look at some of the things that I didn't have as the Wilton line has grown and changed. You can purchase items at your local craft or cake decorating store, or online at Wilton.com.

I bought a Cupcakes N' More 13 count display stand for Nathan's birthday. And I took the new stand and the Ultimate Tool Caddy for our at home family party. I made these great football cupcakes and I was not the only who was pleased!

Wilton is generously giving away an Ultimate Tool Caddy to one Momma D and Da Boyz reader! The Ultimate Tool Caddy retails for $59.99!

How sad is it that the items I'm most interested in are the Recipe Right Muffin Pans? :) I'm 32 years old, and a married woman, but my husband and I had a "quickie" wedding (almost) 9 years ago because he had orders to Germany (he's active duty Air Force) and we had to be married much sooner than our planned wedding date for me to be eligible to go to Germany with him. SO we just got married at the courthouse. I guess that let all of our friends and family off the hook to not have to get anything off of our wedding registry, since we didn't get to have the wedding of our dreams. My Mother handed me down some of her old kitchen items so we'd have something. Now, 9 years later, when our 7 & 2 year old have a birthday coming up, I pull out the 25 year old, rusty, beat-up and scratched muffin pans - along with the cupcake liners! - and make their cupcakes. It's not that new cupcake pans would be crazy expensive, but there's always something else more economical that I could spend that money on, ya know? These may not be pretty, but they still do the job. Good Luck to everyone who enters!

I would also love the Non-stick 3-Tier Stackable Cooling Grid. There aer times of late that either I or my husband are making cookies and while we make them in big batches the cooling method we have is a bit primative--paper bag on kitchen table. This would be a bit better and not cause the cookies to stick to the background as well.

Back when I still lived at home, my mom and I took three levels of Wilton cake decorating classes- she ended up making my wedding cake! Now I hardly ever do any cake decorating, because I have the tiniest kitchen in the world, and therefore no place to keep my supplies. This caddy would solve my problem!

I'd also like to get the Wilton 2010 Yearbook, it brings back memories of my mom and all the fun we had!

The items I like the most are:

Easter Candy Making Kit Mega Pack which would be perfect for making easter treats for my family.

Sea Creatures Lollipop Mold which would make some fun sea creature treats for the kids this summer.

I want the Large Cake Leveler and the Bake Even Strips so my cakes will look better.

I would love the Non-stick 3-Tier Stackable Cooling Grid. It would definately save space on my kitchen counters.
