This is the first in a series of posts about our recent trip to Sears Portrait Studio. All this week I will be sharing each of the boyz individual photo shoots, culminating in the part of the session that included all four boyz. Keep coming back, and mid-week we will be launching our Sears Portrait Studio Giveaway! Enter to win a Sears Portrait Studio Silver Collection, which includes 10 custom “mix and match” portrait sheets, your choice of two collages/composites and one 10x13 wall portrait. Plus, you get a CD of your original images with copyrights and up to 10 standard enhancements, such as black and white, sepia, vignettes or borders!Today we'll be checking out Seth's pictures. As my oldest, sometimes he gets to go first! He also went first when we did individual photos. He has a better understanding of what the photographer is doing and saying, so we asked him to go first to be an example to his younger brothers.
When working with the Sears Portrait Studio I received a sheet of tips for getting the most out of our photo session. They suggested we bring personal items as props. In the past I have always used what was available at the studio, and often my children found the props fun and exciting as they were new and different to them. I was contemplating going that route again, but then I thought about it and thought why not try our own things?
I am so glad we did this! In a way it gives me a permanent memory of what exactly my son was into at the age that the photo was taken. When I explained to Seth what we were thinking about doing, very quickly he came up with what is was he wanted to use.
Harry Potter books. Not just one, but all seven. Seth started to really get into reading in Novemeber. In four months he had read six, and was almost finished with the seventh. So that is what he really wanted to take his pictures with. His great accomplishment of his ninth year.
The photographer, Arsenia, did a wonderful job of capturing his pride. I like that she got him to smile in this photograph, we mostly get tight lipped smirks right now. Mostly, I think, because of the awkward state of his teeth as adult ones are coming in and crowding out baby teeth that haven't fallen out yet. But I love that this is truly him at this age. In years to come we can remember exactly how he was now!

This was my least favorite of the three. It had qualities that I liked, the height of all the books next to his size and more of his actual body, but he looks stiff and his smile isn't natural. In the end we decided not to order this one.

Finally, in this one I love that he is actually reading. Book seven. This is exactly where he was that day in the book, and this very night he finished it. This photograph captures the hard work he had done. I love the peace and quiet it emits.

Tomorrow I'll show you Gabriel's pictures!
I received a Smile Savers Plan for a year and Portrait CD of our session to facilitate this review. Although I did receive these free of charge, all opinions and views expressed here are my own and come from our actual experience.
