Whrrl Sex and the City Tour

While at BlogHer '10 I took a Sex and the City walking tour with Whrrl.  Whrrl is a smartphone app that allows you to check in at the locations you visit.  You can also create a "Whrrl Society".  The premise of this is to make a list of places people with the same likes as you can visit.  So our great Whrrl guide was Jeanna.

We went from the Hilton, where the BlogHer conference was, downtown by limo.  It was a delight to sail through the streets of New York City in style!

We arrived at our first stop, the Jefferson Market Garden.  This is where Steve and Miranda get married in the show.

One of my blogging friends from an online forum was with me on the tour, her name is Tonya.  She is a fabulous photographer and was taking these amazing photos while we walked through the garden.  A man relaxing on the bench asked if we were a photography class and she replied no, we were on a tour (as to avoid the whole we are bloggers/what is a blog conversation).  To which he decided we should have the full story instead of just enjoying the garden.  He proceeded with a long description of how the building behind us was the courthouse and how they used to "hang the women in these trees".  He kept telling us about it and we could not duck out of there fast enough!

Following that we headed to Gray's Papaya, where Carrie stops after her party to celebrate that her book is published.  This place also appears in a ton of other movies and shows filmed in New York!

After this stop we headed to the most talked about Sex and the City episode.  You know, the one with The Rabbit.  We stopped by The Pleasure Chest, shown in the show.  They indeed have a whole display devoted to their moment of fame and The Rabbit, among (cough) other interesting things.

Our next stop was the most anticipated.  This is the stoop and building seen so many times in the show.  Can't you just picture Carrie hanging out the window and Big with the window part way down looking up?  Here is Tonya and I on Carrie's stoop.

We went to the Magnolia Bakery, made famous by Miranda and Carrie eating two of their pastel frosted cupcakes on a bench outside while discussing Carrie's love life.  We waited on the long line and got to choose our own cupcakes.

We finished the tour by eating our lovely choices at a park across the street.  They were indeed delicious!

Thank you to our lovely Whrrl guide Jeanna who taught me how to use Whrrl as we walked and was more than adorable in her Sex and the City getup!

I loved this tour, I loved this hostess and I am now hooked on the Whrrl app!  I have been using a test version of the Whrrl for Android that should be available soon in the App Market.  I know that where I live we are mostly Verizon people, so not many IPhones, but I am looking forward to sharing the app with my Droid friends when it does release!  I am still learning new things about how to work this app, and enjoying all of the features from checking in to societies!

As part of the tour, now that I am home I am participating in creating my own Whrrl society.  I have made one that is kid friendly places around where I live, here in Sullivan County, NY.  I would really appreciate if you would visit Whrrl and consider joining my society. If my society is successful and gets good feedback I have a chance to win a Kindle, which I would LOVE!

Questions about Whrrl?  Check out this great You Tube video that gives a demo of the app!

Gray's Papaya is the least expensive meal you'll find in the city. And the best hot dogs ever!

I went here many nights in my clubbing days :)
