Soon after the guests arrived we took the kids outside to do the piñata. We held the party in the evening, as we wanted it to be dark when we watched the movie, but that meant doing the piñata first prior to the sun setting. We gave each child an empty popcorn bag with their name on it to grab the candy and goodies when the pinata broke. Everyone took a turn, but in the end the birthday boy was the one who broke it!
When we ushered the children to the living room we also collected their popcorn bags. While they were watching the movie we stuffed them with bubbles, movie star sunglasses and chocolate tickets that I made.
They were made with the mold I purchased here. They are chocolate bar size (not mini bite size).
During the movie we popped popcorn and brought it in to the living room to all of the guests. We filled new popcorn bags. They were a great find, packages of 10 at the dollar store, so I stocked up! We also brought in trays with candy for them to choose from several times. Each child got to choose one cupcake wrapper filled with candy of their choice.
The trays were a really easy project. We took three of these dollar store trays...
And painted them with silver spray paint we already had lying around. They looked great, and since they weren't actually touching the food I had no concerns.
After the movie was finished we did the cake! This was Gabriel's movie birthday cake. You can read more about how I made it here...
They could also finish their star name tags for their "dressing rooms" at home. I purchased all of the foam stickers and supplies in the craft section at Walmart.
The decor was almost entirely from Party City. Be sure to check out more of it on this post, and enter to win a $50 Party City gift certificate for your own party!
I'll be linking up here...
