Last week I told you that I was headed to Orlando to the set of Tooth Fairy 2. If you were following my tweets you got to see some of what was happening! I had a wonderful couple of days in Florida as a guest of Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment.
The highlight of the trip was the set visit last Tuesday. We were taken to the Universal Studios, yep- I didn't ever think about there actually being working studios at Universal. I thought it was just a theme park. Well, they have working studios there, Daddy D kind of mocked me on that one!
There we had an opportunity to hear more about the premise of the movie...
Tooth Fairy 2 finds Florida car repairman and one-time Metro County Miracle bowling champ Larry Guthrie (Larry The Cable Guy) having one bad day. He just learned his ex-girlfriend, schoolteacher Brooke (Erin Beute), plans to marry his arch-enemy, a local politician (David Mackey). When Larry shows up at Brooke’s after-school program to talk her out of it, his big mouth lands him in trouble as he inadvertently breaks the news to a child the the Tooth Fairy is just a myth. Now, unless Larry collects 20 teeth in 20 days, the Tooth Fairies are going to erase his greatest memory. And unless he can prove to Brooke that he’s a changed man, he’s going to lose her forever.
After hearing more about the movie we got to sit down with the producer of the movie producer Alan Blomquist, also the producer of the films Walk the Line, Chocolat, & Larry the Cable Guy:Health Inspector. It was great to hear his story of how he got started in the movie business. It was even more interesting to hear about how he chose to move into comedic films with the guys of the Blue Collar Comedy Tour. How when he started working with them he loved the relaxed atmosphere and the fun they all had, and how he chose to keep working with them as opposed to continuing to do Oscar award winning films. It was refreshing to hear a person who put his happiness in his work environment first. I loved how after the Q & A he stuck around, asked questions about what it is that we do and wanted to learn more about Twitter.
One of my favorite answers was when he told us about the changes in the Larry the Cable Guy character, how in the beginning he was 100% fiction and a radio personality. Eventually, after he married, he added a bit more of himself in and dropped the girlfriend jokes. Then with the births of his two children even more of himself made it into the character. Now it is more him than character.
Larry talked about his love of his job, ad libbing and making funny family films that his kids can now watch. He told us about how he stays grounded by living in places like Florida instead of Hollywood. He took pictures with us, and then even signed something for the boyz from Mater!
(They are filming inside the pink trailer, see Larry in the doorway)
My family loved the Tooth Fairy movie with Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson when it came out. I love that this new film builds on the same premise, but the casting of Larry the Cable Guy brings and entirely different type of comedic humor to the franchise. I look forward to seeing Tooth Fairy 2 with my family when it comes out!
Stay tuned for more posts about my Orlando experience, and information on the release date on the Tooth Fairy 2!
My trip was paid in full by Fox Home Entertainment. All opinions expressed are my own.
